How First Academy Built This Curriculum

Every word, example, and interaction is selected, reviewed, and refined to support how the Digital SAT assesses vocabulary: in context, with nuance, and with intent.

1
High-utility academic vocabulary

Prioritised for usefulness across complex academic reading, not obscurity for its own sake.

2
Context and confusion risk

Items receive more practice when their senses or close alternatives create genuine difficulty.

3
Two-pass academic review

Lexical accuracy and SAT-question quality are checked separately before publication.

4
Versioned corrections

Definitions, examples, and questions are tracked so improvements remain transparent.

Common Questions

Straight answers about the curriculum and how to use it.

Does the Digital SAT test vocabulary?

Yes. Under Craft and Structure, Words in Context questions ask you to interpret or select a logical and precise word or phrase in a passage. Vocabulary also affects comprehension across the Reading and Writing section.

How many SAT vocabulary words should I learn?

There is no guaranteed master list. Start with the Core 300 if time is limited, expand to 600 for broader coverage, and use the complete 1,000-item curriculum for long-term preparation.

Is memorising definitions enough?

No. You also need to distinguish near-synonyms, recognise tone and connotation, and use context clues. The Lab moves each item from recall to SAT-style application.

How long will 1,000 items take?

At five to eight new items per day with regular review, most learners need several months. The diagnostic and study plans help you prioritise when your test date is closer.

Is the Vocabulary Lab completely free?

Yes. The curriculum, practice, and explanations are available without a login, email address, or paywall.

Where is my progress saved?

Progress is stored locally in your browser. It remains private, but it will not automatically appear in another browser or device until progress export and import are available.

Is this affiliated with College Board?

No. First Academy is an independent educational provider. SAT is a registered trademark of College Board, which does not endorse or sponsor this resource.

Is this only for students in India?

No. It is built by First Academy in India for students in Classes 8-12 and other SAT learners, but the English-only curriculum is open to everyone worldwide.
