Speaking Part 2 – IELTS - First Academy

💡 Speaking Part 2 – Talking about an event from your life

This post gives you an idea of what you could do in the IELTS speaking section, with specific focus on how to handle a cure card that requires you to talk about an event from your life.

Note: While this is more in tune with the IELTS test, you can use many of the pointers to help you with speaking in other tests like the PTE and TOEFL!

Here are the pointers

💡 Get some ideas by asking yourself Who? What? Where? When? and How? (The questions in the cue card are designed to help you with the same)

✔️Before starting your story, decide what will happen at the beginning, in the middle and at the end.

(This is something that you need to plan out in the one minute you have for preparation)

💡 Use time expressions like before, after, during, when, while, until, first, then, immediately, as soon as, suddenly, finally, etc – This will add to the coherence of the narrative

💡 Use a variety of tenses: Past simple for events, Past continuous to describe the background, past perfect for actions that happened before something else.

↗️Use direct speech. For example, “That was fantastic! I never had so much fun in my life”

💡 Be expressive, use the right words, but please remember, if you are not sure of a word, use a simpler word that you are certain of!
